ST Aerospace has signed a cabin reconfiguration agreement with Air Canada for the carrier’s fleet of eight A330 aircraft.

The first A330 will be inducted in the third quarter of 2016, with the last aircraft targeted for redelivery by the end of Q1 2017.

For each of the eight aircraft, ST Aerospace will be installing additional premium economy seats in the aircraft cabin whilst enlarging the economy class section.

The scope of work will also include the integration of an audio and video on-demand system, and maintenance checks for the entire aircraft fleet.

George Psycharis, senior director of airframe and engine maintenance at Air Canada, said the decision was influenced by ST Aerospace’s performance with its ongoing airframe maintenance and reconfiguration projects.

Penton Aviation Network Acquires London-based MRO Network to Expand Service Offering in the Fast Growing Aircraft Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul Segment

Expands Penton’s leading Global MRO portfolio, taps projected fleet growth and related maintenance needs over the next decade

NEW YORK, November 2, 2015– Penton, an innovative professional information services company, today announced the acquisition of MRO Network, which will expand its position as the premier information services provider and event producer for the fast-growing aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) segment.

The acquisition of MRO Network, including the Airline Purchasing & Maintenance Europe (ap&m) Expo, expands Penton’s events business and enhances its data and marketing services businesses through the addition of more than 50,000 MRO professionals to Penton’s MRO Links digital directory platform. The ap&m event focuses on second, third and fourth-tier aftermarket suppliers, providing the perfect complement to Aviation Week’s MRO Europe event, which engages tier one and two suppliers. In addition to the ap&m Expo, other MRO Network assets include a global conference series, the ATE&M Awards, and a portfolio of media and digital products.

“With the acquisition of MRO Network, Penton is able to offer ‘one-stop shopping’ to marketers looking to expand their presence across the entire supplier spectrum, from tier one through tier four,” stated Greg Hamilton, Market Leader and head of Penton’s Aviation Week Network. With this acquisition, Penton’s MRO business is now expanded across Europe and the Middle East, and joins existing MRO franchises in North and South America as well as Asia. MRO becomes the largest segment of Penton’s aviation portfolio and positions the business as the leading information services provider serving this segment.

The FAA has updated its advisory circular (AC) for the maintenance of emergency evacuation systems (EES).

The AC provides information and guidance for EES MRO and discusses the responsibilities and means of compliance for the air carrier and their staff performing maintenance on these systems. The AC covers components of all aircraft slide-equipped exits affecting the emergency egress.

Full details of AC 43-208 can be found on the FAA website.

AFI KLM E&M Components China has obtained EASA Part-145 approval.

The subsidiary which was established in Shanghai in 2013 to repair avionics components already holds CAAC certification.

“This is a very important certification for us" remarked Vincent D’Andréa, SVP components product at AFI KLM E&M, "especially in view of the strict requirements of Chinese airlines that contract work only to shops with CAAC, EASA and/or FAA certification. The approval will be a genuine asset in upcoming tender processes in the quest for increased market share”.

The facility currently has capabilities for A320, A330, 737 and 757 aircraft.

Swiss MRO SR Technics has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with German carrier airberlin to maintain its fleet of PW4000-100 and CFM56 engines.

The new contract marks a five-year extension between the two parties and is valued at $450m.

The engines covered by SR Technics power airberlin’s fleet of A330 and A320 aircraft. Stefan Pichler, CEO of airberlin, said the MoU builds on the “already significant” relationship between the airline and SR Technics.
